Ahmedabad is the largest city in the state of Gujarat in India. It is located in the eponymous district of Ahmedabad, on the banks of Sabarmati River.

GDP of Ahmedabad in 2014 was estimated at $ 64 billion. According to the Reserve Bank of India, in June 2012 the city ranked seventh in terms of financial performance. In the XIX century light industry in Ahmedabad received a significant investment, since on May 30, 1861 the first textile factory was founded in India, following which there were also other companies of this industry establishing there industry in and around the city. By 1905 the city had 33 textile factories. During the First World War, light industry received additional impetus to the development due to the movement of Mahatma Gandhi, aimed at promoting the made in India products.

Ahmedabad is India’s largest supplier of denim and one of the largest exporters of precious stones and jewelry. The automotive industry also plays an important role in the economy of the city: the city has factory of Indian automobiles giant Tata Motors, and Ford and Suzuki are also planning to setup their plants here, whereas Peugeot has already started the construction of its new manufacturing facility.

Ahmedabad Stock Exchange, located in the Ambavadi district, is the second oldest stock exchange in India. The two largest Indian pharmaceutical companies: Zydus Cadila and Torrent Pharmaceuticals are also located in the city. Information technology industry is also well developed here: according to a study by NASSCOM Ahmedabad ranked fifth among the nine largest IT-centers.

Spanish and Latin American companies since long have been actively investing and doing business with the city. Owing to growing business activities with Spanish and Latin American companies, demand for professionals with Spanish language skills in Ahmedabad has always been there but it has been growing very rapidly in recent years.
